The Covid pandemic caused abrupt changes as we entered a period of considerable online communication across all facets of our lives. The ‘Survivors as Teachers’ program which takes those with a lived experience of cancer to speak with medical students about their cancer experience was also impacted as we transitioned to an online approach. The impact of these changes, and how we preference delivering such programs moving forward has not been fully explored.

The nature of the survey aims to investigate the broad impact this transition had on those presenting for ‘Survivors as Teachers’ during the pandemic. It will explore the online general views on the videoconferencing experience for our presenters, but also how those who have previously presented face-to-face compare the experience to videoconferencing.

Participants from the Survivors as Teachers program were sent an email with a link to an anonymous online survey with a series of questions consisting of multiple-choice options and opportunity for written responses to further explore the attitudes of presenters toward the differing modalities.

Results for this survey are to be finalised but are anticipated to help inform a standardised way of delivering programs such as ‘Survivors as Teachers’ that will reduce disruption to the program from unforeseen events, will optimise accessibility where face-to-face engagement is not possible, and help inform future projects.
